ST.JUDE’S SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME (PAHANA)

This Scheme started in 1993, is aimed at the less fortunate but bright children whose parents or guardians find it difficult to spend on their education.

Children have to be recommended by parish priests or Grama Sevakas and they receive twice a year whatever the school material they need for the year. Their progress is monitored through their reports.

A/L STUDENTS’ SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME (ATHWELA)

Students in Advanced Level years I & II are being financially supported in their tuition or in traveling Each student is given Rs. 250/- to Rs. 350/- a month depending on their needs, up to the month of the final examination.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION (DIRIYA)

A few post advanced level students, who have financial difficulties, are selected at a time to be the beneficiaries of this Scheme, which is meant to help them to follow a job oriented technical course. Only two or three are selected at a time depending on the availability of funds. So far about four young men and women have benefited by this Scheme, i.e. from 1995.

ANNUAL DISTRIBUTION OF SCHOOL BOOKS

The poor children of the area and surrounding villages are given part of the school material they need. Annually this is done together with a Christmas treat for the less fortunate children.

ST. JUDE’S FOSTER PARENTS SCHEME (SENEHASA)

In addition to the Scholarship Schemes and other human development projects we have launched with your generous cooperation, in September’97, the Administration announced that a programme to cater to the daily requirements of children, who have lost their breadwinner, was to be launched with our mediation. That programme is being called “SENEHASA”- ST. JUDE’S FOSTER PARENTS SCHEME – to promote a spirit of sharing and love, compassion and care of the generous hearts and souls with the children who sometimes even do not know the very meaning of those words.

“SENEHASA” will hopefully give them an assurance of some of their basic needs, such as nourishment and medicines. Our invitation is for those of you who have been blessed abundantly by God to share and provide for some such children, giving them a reason to smile.

Children are enrolled on the recommendation of Parish Priests, or Grama Sevakas. You can either provide them with Rs. 500/- a month or food and nourishment to that amount. You will be given the name and address of the child you provide for. You can pass on your support through the administration or directly to them We only want to be the mediators: to bring to the notice of those who have and are generous, the needs and existence of the unfortunate children, and to stimulate a spirit of sharing in God’s name.

If you are interested in “SENEHASA” programme, call us or write to us or meet us.

In a world where children children are abused let us treat them with dignity and love.
